Birds as fragments of our cultural heritage (from the 2nd-6th centuries). In the Episcopal Basilica of Philippopolis, Plovdiv, over 100 species of birds are depicted in mosaics. Most of them are located around the altar of the Basilica, forming a symbolic picture of the Garden of Eden. The peacock, as an ancient symbol of immortality, occupies a central place in the scene “The Source of Life”.
